Back in 1903 William Harley and Arthur, William and Walter Davidson began production of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  In 2003 we will be celebrating a 100 year old American Tradition.. Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, an icon of freedom, created in America.

If you would like to assist in the effort to have, a commemorative domestic postage stamp honoring the contributions of the founders of Harley-Davidson published in 2003, please print this special letter and make copies for your friends!

This is not a "one time thing", we need to inundate the postal service with letters of support for this grassroots stamp idea.

The final stamp design will be decided by the Stamp Committee, or possibly a vote of postal customers, if they allow it. There is space on the form for you to let them know what you want.. the 4 fathers of Harley-Davidson or just a motorcycling scene. Either way, the contribution that Harley-Davidson Motorcycles have made to our culture should finally be recognized, and the 100th Anniversary would be the ideal time to do it!

The designs shown here are only rough ideas. The final stamp design will not even be started until we convince the Postal Service that the public wants this!
In 1999 the US Postal Service created over 50 new stamps celebrating and honoring everything from Author Ayn Rand, Architect Frederick Law Olmstead and Daffy Duck to the Block Island Lighthouse, Malcom X, and even Xtreme Sports.  [CLICK HERE FOR THE 2002 STAMPS]

It is hard to believe that with all of the lasting contributions they made to our culture that the fathers of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle have not been honored before this.. in lieu of a long list of minor philanthropists, cartoon characters and the Barbie Doll! There are stamps honoring the Ford Mustang, the Slinky, and a myriad of other commercial products, as well as their inventors.. but not the creators of the Harley-Davidson.. YET!

NOTE: Please be sure to print the support letter, fill it out completely and SIGN IT.  Fold the letter into three segments, as indicated, with your name and address on the inside.  Tape the folded letter and place proper postage on the front.  Then, mail it in to the Citizen's Stamp Advisory Committee!  If we can overwhelm them with enough requests for this stamp, we can all be a part of history!
